About Peppa Pig
Peppa is a stylized pig who wears a red dress and black shoes. Her features are simplified into circles and straight lines, and both eyes are visible even when she is in profile.
What you need
- HB pencil for the construction lines
- Black chisel-tip marker for the outlines
- Fine black marker for the details
- Eraser
- White cardstock or thick paper
The 6 steps
Light comes from the none in every step. Each picture shows the drawing as it should look when that step is done.
Step 1: Head and snout
Use an HB pencil to draw a circle for the head and a horizontal oval for the snout.
Common mistake: Making the snout too short; ensure it extends far enough to look like a whistle.
Step 2: The dress
Draw a large triangle with a rounded base for Peppa's dress using the HB pencil.
Common mistake: Drawing the dress too narrow; make the base wider than the head circle.
Step 3: Limbs and ears
Add two small ovals for ears and straight lines for the arms and legs with the HB pencil.
Common mistake: Placing the ears too far apart; keep them close together at the top of the head.
Step 4: Bold outline
Switch to the chisel-tip marker and trace the outer edge of the head, snout, and dress.
Common mistake: Tracing the construction lines inside the head; only follow the outer silhouette.
Step 5: Facial features
Use the fine marker to add the eyes, nostrils, mouth, and the circular cheek.
Common mistake: Putting eyes on opposite sides; place both eyes together on the side of the face.
Step 6: Final details
Add the boots, fingers, and tail with the fine marker, then erase the HB pencil lines.
Common mistake: Forgetting to erase the construction lines; the final drawing should only show marker.
What makes it look right
- Keep the pencil lines light so they are easy to remove later.
- Overlap the head circle and the snout oval to create one solid shape.
- Place both eyes on the same side of the face to match the cartoon style.
